Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream



One of the Washington's family favorites, this ice cream will get you hooked!!


Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream

4 large eggs
½ tsp. salt
6 cups milk
2 cups sugar
1 tbsp. vanilla extract
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 pint strawberries (sweetened)



Combine eggs and salt; beat until light.
Add condensed milk, sugar, and vanilla.  Mix well.
Pour mixture into ice cream churn.
Add milk.
Churn until almost set.
Add strawberries and continue to churn until ready!
Makes 12 servings.

Fresh Strawberry Pie



You can't go wrong with this classic recipe!!
Fresh Strawberry Pie

1 quart strawberries
1 cup sugar
2 ½ or 3 tbsp. cornstarch
2 tbsp. lemon juice
1 baked pie shell
½ pint whipping cream (optional)
red food coloring (optional)

Wash berries and hull.  Put one half of berries in sauce pan and crush.  Mix sugar and cornstarch; add to crushed berries along with lemon juice.  Cook on medium heat until mixture thickens.  Cool.  Cut remaining berries into halves and mix with the cooked mixture.  Add a few drops of red food coloring to the cooked mixture before adding the uncooked berries.  Pour mixture into baked pie shell.  Chill before serving.  Serve topped with whipped cream.

Strawberry Smoothie



With the warm weather on the way, what better way to cool off than with a sweet treat?! Our Washington Farms' fresh strawberries make this recipe one to remember!

Strawberry Smoothie

2 cups frozen strawberries
2 cups orange, pineapple or apple juice
1 banana

Sweeten to taste.
Blend for 1 minute.
Makes 4 cups.
Variations: add one cup of ice cream - makes it more like a strawberry milkshake; you can also always add more fruit such as blueberries, blackberries, peaches, pears, etc. :) Such a delicious, healthy treat!

Fresh Berry Pie


Here is one of our favorite berry recipes! Its great with either blueberries, blackberries, or our favorite, a mixture of both!!
 
Fresh Berry Pie

  • 4 cups of fresh berries
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 recipe pastry for a 9 inch double crust pie
Boil all ingredients for 15 minutes.  Place in pie shell.  Cover with top crust. pinch edges together. Cut slits in the top of the crust. Brown in the oven at 350 degrees - approximately 15-20 minutes.
*This recipe is delicious with blueberries, black berries or mixed berries.

It's almost time to pick Strawberries!!!

Our strawberries are starting to look really good! We think in the next few weeks, we'll be picking our first bunch. Not only are we excited about our tasty strawberries, but we are also planning our first Strawberry Festival!!
On April 30, 2011, we will have our farm activities up and running! These activities include: Hay Ride, Cow Train, Tunnel Slides, Playscape, Petting Farm, PVC Slide, Corn Box & Sand Box, Duck races, Tricycle track, Vortex Tunnel, and Jumping Pillow. There will be tons of yummy food, including Mr. Washington's homemade ice-cream, funnel cakes, and strawberry shortcake!! We also have a wide variety of musical acts and arts and craft vendors to make this day really great! Be sure to bring out all your friends and family for a great day at Washington Farms!!
